Purpose
​
HISD adopted Magnet programs in 1975 in order to ensure that every student, regardless of culture, ethnicity, language, or economic status, had both equal opportunity and access to a high-quality education. This district began with 32 Magnet programs and is now serving over 70,000 students with over 100 programs throughout the Houston area. Magnet programs allow students to pursue and develop their interests, and each program promotes communication between parents, communities, and businesses
About Our Program

The Media Magnet for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management program at Northside High School is a Career Magnet program that prepares students for a college degree or certification in those areas. Students that participate in our program prepare for a college program in hotel management or culinary arts, or they may choose to enter the job market right after graduation. Seniors have the opportunity to participate in hotel internships and other cooperative work-study programs while they are still in school.

We would like to congratulate our Culinary Arts students who took part in the cooking interview at Rice University this year. All 13 of our students who interviewed were offered positions at the Dining and Room Services dept at Rice. We are so proud of them!
